All Inspections in the DriveON Program will be completed online via the Tablet.
The following information summarizes a Vehicle Inspection Centre’s responsibility for providing high-speed Internet to the Inspection Tablet.
High-speed Internet and Wi-Fi in the testing area must be available and ready prior to setting up new equipment.
It is recommended that you contact your local internet service provider or IT department to confirm that your Vehicle Inspection Centre (VIC) meets these requirements.
Please consider an Internet plan with enough bandwidth to support your operations and run the DriveON program. The VIC is responsible for providing high-speed Internet to the Inspection Tablet and for the Internet charges.
HIGH-SPEED INTERNET CONNECTION
VICs must provide a high-speed Internet connection (e.g., DSL or cable modem).
WI-FI
Wi-Fi access to Internet is a requirement to use the new DriveON equipment. VICs are required to have Wi-Fi in the testing area. Instructions on connecting the Tablet to Wi-Fi will be provided with the shipped equipment. A Wi-Fi extender/booster or other methods can be used to increase Wi-Fi coverage.
Only Wi-Fi network connectivity is supported. The Tablet does not support accepting SIM cards for broadband communication (e.g. LTE or 5G). However, the Tablet can be connected via Wi-Fi to a reliable hot-spot (aka Mi-Fi).
The Tablet supports industry standard Wi-Fi connectivity where the IP address is assigned by a DHCP server and does not require installation of additional software on the Tablet.
The Tablet cannot accommodate custom configurations such as static IP address, setting up proxy servers, Virtual Private Network (VPN) configuration or a captive portal.
