You must upload a copy of your current business Insurance Certificate during enrolment.
Important Note: Not all Vehicle Inspection Centres (VICs) require all coverages listed below. Please refer to the DriveON Performance Contract for your VIC Class for specifics. The Performance Contracts are found on the DriveON Portal login page.
The Insurance Certificate must clearly state the following specific language to be accepted:
(a) Commercial general liability of not less than $3 million per occurrence on property damage, bodily injury, and personal injury.
Additional Insured on the Commercial General Liability coverage must read as follows: “His Majesty the King in right of Ontario as represented by the Minister of Transportation, 87 Sir William Hearst Avenue, Suite 211, Toronto, ON., M3M 0B4.”
If your VIC performs inspections for public vehicles, the Insurance Certificate also requires:
b) Standard Garage Liability of not less than $3 million per occurrence on property damage and bodily injury.
c) Legal Liability for Damage to Customer Vehicles while in custody and control of not less than $200,000 for collision and not less than $300,000 for specified perils or comprehensive coverage.
In addition to the above required insurance coverages and specific language, the following must also be found on the certificate of insurance:
- Certificate Holder MUST be listed as: “His Majesty the King in right of Ontario as represented by the Minister of Transportation, 87 Sir William Hearst Avenue, Suite 211, Toronto, ON., M3M 0B4”.
- Insurance Certificate MUST include the effective date and expiry date.
- Insured name MUST match your company Legal Name exactly as shown on your Business Documentation (Master Business Licence or Certificate of Registration or Profile Report or Articles of Incorporation, and Tax Compliance Verification Certificate; not applicable for government/police VICs). Certificate of Insurance may include business name, but it must have the business legal name listed. o Example: Legal name “1234 Ontario Inc” or legal name with business name “1234 Ontario Inc o/a Joe’s Auto Enterprises” will be accepted. Listing only the business name on the certificate of insurance as “Joe’s Auto Enterprises” will not be accepted.
- Insured address MUST match VIC business address (where inspections are performed) and must match exactly last listed in Section 2 – Business Information of your DriveON Portal application.
VIC Owners to confirm the following information on the Insurance Certificate before upload:
- Insurance coverages as listed in the Performance Contract for your VIC class.
- Insurance Certificate must include the effective date and expiry date.
- Insured name must match company Legal Name exactly as shown on your Business Documentation.
- Insured address matches exactly as entered in Business Information section of your DriveON Portal application (and matches exactly as listed on Business Documentation).
- Effective date and Expiry date entered in the DriveON Portal fields in the Insurance Section match the dates as listed on the insurance certificate
- Certificate Holder listed as: “His Majesty the King in right of Ontario as represented by the Minister of Transportation, 87 Sir William Hearst Avenue, Suite 211, Toronto, ON, M3M 0B4.”
- Additional Insured on the Commercial General Liability coverage: “His Majesty the King in right of Ontario as represented by the Minister of Transportation, 87 Sir William Hearst Avenue, Suite 211, Toronto, ON, M3M 0B4.”
- Commercial General Liability of not less than $3 million per occurrence on property damage, bodily injury, and personal injury.
If your VIC performs inspections for public vehicles, the Insurance Certificate must also state:
- Standard Garage Liability of not less than $3 million per occurrence on property damage and bodily injury.
- Legal Liability for Damage to Customer Vehicles while in custody and control of not less than $200,000 for collision and not less than $300,000 for specified perils or comprehensive coverage.
Note: Insurance certificates are required to be kept current for the life of the program. The DriveON Portal will email the Vehicle Inspection Centre (VIC) owner in advance of the certificate expiring to remind the VIC to upload a replacement.
